It was a dream come true when we the parishioners of Nativity of Our Lord Church Kandivli East stepped out after our Sunday School class and visited Bosco Boys Home (BBH), Borivali on Sunday, 22nd September 2019.
We were a group of children from class 7th, 8th and 9th not knowing what we were expected to see here. Of course our teachers, parents and a few from the youth group were with us. Cl. Jittin Mathew sdb took us on a tour of the technical skills training section explaining the courses offered by the 5 skills training departments (4 wheeler light vehicle mechanics, 2wheeler mechanics, Electrical, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning and Hotel Management). The training courses are offered to the poorest of poor youth and school dropouts (age group 8years and above) to help them learn an employment generating skill and be able to alleviate the income level in their homes. We then met with the children (street, orphan and single parent/guardian children –age group: 10years to18years) of BBH on the first floor. We also got to see the dormitory, music area and gym. Our teachers and youth explained the importance of hygiene and cleanliness to the children. Many children knew the answers and they were eager to respond. We felt very happy to see so many children wanting to answer questions.
Fr. Corlis Gonsalves sdb, the Director of BBH, shared words of wisdom. With real stories, he told us to think of our parents, take care of them, spend time with them and when we start working provide for them.We left with a happy feeling and today we hold memories of Bosco Boys Home which we will cherish in the future years. Of course we will never ever forget the words of St. John (Don) Bosco quoted by Cl. Jittin: “Work for God and Work for Society”.
