The Bosco Boys’ Home Borivali-Mumbai contingent of 36 enthusiastic sports participants arrived at HP Ground on 15 February 2020, accompanied by Mathew George to participate in the Bhumi-HP Sampark Nakshatra Sports 2020. A massive gathering of 500 children from 18 different NGOs and 50 children from ADAPT and PODS showcased their sporting talents at this sports fest.

This annual sports event is organised by Bhumi NGO, one of India’s largest independent and youth volunteer not-for-profit organisations, founded in August 2006 by a small group of friends with a strong passion to change society and build a better India for tomorrow. Bhumi provides a platform to underprivileged children to improve their self-confidence and to contribute to their holistic development through promotion of extra-curricular activities.

Nakshatra 2020 kicked off with a beautiful march-in parade in which Shahruk Sheikh, a Pre-NIOS student of BBH was the torch bearer. An array of sports activities for different age categories, comprising of track and field events like relay, shotput, 100m, 200m, and 400m races; outdoor games like rink-football, cricket, throwball and kho-kho; and indoor games like chess, carrom and badminton provided the participants a wonderful opportunity to display their sporting prowess. BBH made its mark with stellar performances and winning several individual medals.

Sevak Pednekar, one of the participant from BBH said, “Bhumi provided a platform for us to dream, exhibit our talents, and get competitive exposure. It also helped us to discover our true potential.” BBH dazzled in an atmosphere of healthy competition, coming in as runners-up to St. Catherine’s Home, Mumbai in the overall competition.
