On 28th September, 2018 from 9.30am to 11.30 am Awareness session on use of Electronics was organized by Students of the Thakur College of Engineering and Technology (Dept. of Electronics and Telecommunication) for the children of Bosco Boys Home, Borivali. The resource person for this workshop was Prof. Mrs. Lochan Jolly. In all, 25 children from Bosco Boys Home took part in this informative and educative session.

The objective of conducting this workshop was to facilitate the children with hands-on experience with the setups of small experiments so to familiarize themselves with the electronic components and its outputs and to create passion and excitement in the young minds and to develop their interest towards the field of Electronics. The main aim of this workshop was to make the children understand the basic concepts of Electronics like how the light flows, how the flow of light is controlled and how light is generated, the working of circuit with transistors as additonal controlling switch in circuit.

Prof. Mrs. Lochan in the session explained to the children what resistance is and how to measure the resistance, what is potentiometer, digital millimeter, the working of

Light Emitted Diode (LED) circuit, working of LED circuit as temperature Sensor and the working of LED Circuit as blown fuse indicator, along with explaining the basic concepts of Electronics. To help her out in these session, she brought along with her 11 volunteers, the students of the Thakur College of Engineering and Technology of the Dept. of Electronics and Telecommunication. They helped out in the setting the place and by providing individual guidance and training to the children.

This session was provided free of costs as an initiative to promote technical education. After the workshop there was a group discussion among children’s and they shared their individual experience about what they learned in the workshop.

Master Parshuram Poojari, a 9 std boy said, “It was pleasing to see the live demo on each subject and individual guidance by the team of Thakur College made the session easy and enjoying…It was thrilling and exciting to do the demo by ourselves.”

Prof. Mrs. Lochan shared, “Before the workshop, hardly few students were interested in learning electronics. But it was good to see that after the workshop many kids felt that Electronics is very interesting and not boring. The session especially with live demos made the kids enjoy and thoroughly taking part in the workshop.” She ended with the powerful words “We should not copy but use our own Intellectual God bestowed on us and the youngsters must take advantage of the various technological advancements that are available at their disposal.”

Annie Dias, one of the staff of Bosco Boys Home expressed, “We appreciate the efforts taken by the Students and the Management of Thakur College of Engineering and Technology specially the Dept. of Electronics and Telecommunication and Prof. Mrs. Lochan Jolly in organizing a much needed training programme for our children to update their knowledge on the topic related to scientific techniques and enhancing the capability of the young minds.”
